Police Brutality
From the past years to present day we have seen police brutality grow and get much worse. Police brutality is when the law enforcement excessively harasses oneself being, and uses their power more than what it deems. This includes verbal abuse, physical abuse, and detaining/arresting someone without following the proper laws that police are taught. To this day there is factual evidence that African Americans are targeted more by police than White people. An example of police brutality occurred In March 1991. Members of the Los Angeles Police Department harshly beat an African American suspect, Rodney King, while a white civilian videotaped the incident, leading to extensive media coverage and criminal charges against several of the officers involved. In April 1992, hours after the four police officers involved were acquitted at trial, the Los Angeles riots of 1992 commenced, causing 53 deaths, 2,383 injuries, more than 7,000 fires, damage to 3,100 businesses, and nearly $1 billion in financial losses. After facing federal trial, two of the four officers were convicted and received 32-month prison sentences. The case was widely seen as a key factor in the reform of the Los Angeles Police Department. Also According to data released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (2011), between 2003 and 2009 at least 4,813 people died in the process of being arrested by local police. Of the deaths classified as law enforcement homicides, 2,876 deaths occurred of which 1,643 of the people who died were "people of color". The reason I chose this topic was because I support everyone being equal; especially when it comes to law enforcement. There is no reason why African Americans should be targeted, and even in general nobody should be targeted unless there is valid proof of having to take it to the next level. Police are responsible for their actions just like we are, so carrying a gun doesn't give them the right just to pull it out when they feel the need to. That goes with tasers, pepper spray, etc because frankly the weapons a police officer obtains are used to defend them-self and others; not to be used as a threat. Police brutality is still an occurring problem today then needs to be reduced. There are movements such as the Black Lives Matter Movement to protest police brutality and their targets towards African Americans.

Shadow:
Describe- My photo was taken on the side of a building while it was dark out. There was a bright light that casted a brilliant shadow of max. The photo shows half of Max's real body but you can see his whole body from the shadow which is the main object of the image. The shadow is rule of thirds since its on the side of the photo. Analyze- One dominate principle of my photo was cropping. By cropping the photo down I was able to make the shadow the main object of the image, but also it gives the viewer a question on why you can’t see the rest of Max's real body. Also the background shows part of a tree with a snowbank which helps balance the whole image. Interpret- The feeling of my photo brings curiosity. Questioning who is the man in this photo. Also it adds a suspense feeling since it is dark out, and you can see what the figure of the shadow looks like but not what the actual person looks like. Evaluate- Overall I thought this shadow picture was pretty good. I love how you can see half of the real person which makes you wonder, but then you can see the persons whole shadow giving the viewer a feel of “who is this person”. Everything in the picture seems to blend beautiful with the right amount of dark with lights. Reflection: Describe- My photo is a shaky reflection of trees coming off an icy moving river. This was down in hanover and I went down by the side of the river. Analyze- One dominant principle of my photo was the Balance of lights and darks. The branches and trees are showing dark as well as the reflection of the trees, and the sky, snow, and parts of the water are white balancing both perfectly. Interpret- The feeling of the photo brings a calm feeling to the viewer's eye. There is nothing much distracting in the image and shows a clear view of the reflection as well as what its reflecting from. Evaluate- I think that this photo could have turned out better. The moving icy river didn’t give off the most perfect reflection, but its still there. |
